AMC atres has refused to air any Universal movies effective immediately after certain comments were me by NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell that were deemed unacceptable. comments were based on ir decision to bypass a tritional atrical release for Trolls World Tour while turning it into a digital exclusive, as reported by an entertainment portal.

In conversation with an international daily, Jeff Shell stated that Trolls World Tour was quite a success in meeting ir expectations, as it was able to bring in close to $100 million in revenue from digital sales alone with over five million copies sold.
He also said that as soon as atres reopen after current crisis, y expect to release films on both formats, which means some movies would have atrical releases while ors would go straight to digital retailers or possibly make it to Peacock, NBCUniversal’s new OTT service.

Those were comments that led to a lengthy statement from AMC atres chair-CEO am Aron, who called Jeff’s comments “unacceptable.” am ted that his comments were actually disappointing, which perhaps has left m with option and hence decision to longer play any Universal movies in any of ir atres in United States, Europe or Middle East, effective immediately.

He also said that policy will affect any and all Universal movies per se, and will go into effect right away once ir atres reopen, ding that it is t some hollow or ill-considered threat. Aron furr clarified that policy does t specifically target Universal out of pique or be punitive in any way, but it also extends to any or moviemaker who unilaterally abandons existing windowing practices absent good faith negotiations between m, which enables m as distributors and AMC atres as an exhibitor to benefit where neir sides are hurt from such changes.

Cineworld joins AMC atres and will longer play Universal Studios movies
AMC atres is a major cinema chain, and losing access to its atres in United States would be a devastating blow for Universal’s upcoming movies, however, AMC isn’t only exhibitor that is abandoning studio. Cineworld, a company behind Regal aters, also me an anuncement stating that y are joining AMC atres in refusing to play any Universal film, as confirmed by a recent report.
