Why is TikTok still working in India after getting banned by the government?

On June 29, Indian government anunced ban of 59 Chinese-owned mobile applications in country which included popular short video sharing platform TikTok. ban was enforced under Section 69A of IT Act with relevant provisions of Information Techlogy (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking of Access of Information by Public) Rules 2009. authority will also instruct ISPs in country to block se Chinese apps. This means that users will soon receive a mess on ir device stating that se apps have been restricted. decision came a day after TikTok was pulled from Google Play Store and App Store.

Why is TikTok still working?
People who have TikTok installed on ir phones are still able to use app despite being officially banned in country. This involves accessing app, creating videos and even sharing m with online community. app boasted around 119 million active users in country and was one of top 10 mobile applications on both App Store and Google Play Store. And while existing users are still able to use TikTok app on ir devices, new users won’t be able to download it anymore. However, re are a number of or banned Chinese apps that can still be downloaded from Play Store.

It is also worth ting that users who have app downloaded on ir devices are also able to view it on Google Play Store. Once app is uninstalled, it will longer be visible on platform.
Meanwhile, Nikhil Gandhi, Head of TikTok India, recently responded to move stating that company has been invited to meet with concerned government stakeholders for a chance to respond and submit ir clarification. It should also be ted that this is t first time that TikTok has been banned in country. Previously, Chinese social media platform was suspended for promoting porgraphic content and some privacy concerns; however, it soon made a comeback on Google Play Store and App Store.
