Government of India, on June 29, imposed a ban on 59 Chinese apps in wake of rising Indo-China border tension in Ladakh, citing threat to country’s security and society. Ministry of Information and Techlogy has stated that se Chinese apps were in violation of user privacy and shared ir data on servers located outside of India.

Why is SHAREit still working in India?

SHAREit has been one of most preferred file-sharing applications among users for many years w as it allowed mobile users to transfer large data files with ease. Chinese mobile app has crossed 500-million user mark with more than 1.5 million active users.

Google has w pulled down SHAREit from Play Store for Indian users; however, app is still operational for existing users. This means that users who have app installed on ir devices will be able to continue using app and share files with or SHAREit users. As for new users, y won’t be able to download SHAREit from Google Play Store as it is longer part of app listing on platform.

Why is SHAREit still t banned completely?

Besides getting app de-listed from platform, Internet Service Providers in country will need to blacklist each and every host-name and domain name that is associated with particular application for ban to come into effect, and for se apps to cease functioning.  ISPs will actually need to stop data traffic on se platforms as data is key for se apps to remain operational. Indian government is already in talks with Internet Service Providers and telecom operators in country to help enforce a complete ban on se applications.
