YouTube update: YouTube announced a host of new features coming to its platform, including its mobile apps and TV interface, today. These updates not only bring improvements to existing features such as the miniplayer and the platform's TV interface, but they also bring a new feature that enable users to take time off the platform easily. Additionally, this update also includes features such as fine-tunable playback speed and improved browsing in landscape, that have been announced already.
Improved multiplayer
YouTube today announced it has improved the miniplayer available for watching videos in the YouTube app. With the latest update, the miniplayer is getting the ability to resize and move the miniplayer within the app.
Playlists get dynamic
The company has announced one of the major updates to the playlists on its platform. Users can now design their own custom thumbnails for playlists using their own photos or create new ones with generative AI. Users will also be able to build new playlists in collaboration with other users. This feature will be available on mobile, web, TVs, and YouTube Music.
Set bedtime with Sleep Timer
YouTube is also getting a new Sleep Time feature that will let users set a timer to automatically pause videos after a certain duration of time. This feature will be available on YouTube across mobile devices.
YouTube collectables
YouTube is also rolling out badges to the YouTube and YouTube Music apps on mobile devices. With these badges, users will be able to celebrate unique-to-YouTube milestones, such as being one of the first set of paid members of a creator’s channel, or correctly completing quizzes. "Users can even earn badges for being a top listener of their favorite artist or having a creator heart your comment," YouTube wrote in a blog post.
These badges will be available in the You tab of the platform.
YouTube on TV gets an update
YouTube has also updated the YouTube experience on TV. The company also said that the visual changes rolling out on web and mobile will also come to the YouTube app on TV.
As far as availability is concerned, YouTube says that it has rolling out these updates across web, mobile, TVs, and YouTube Music.
