Zomato joins video streaming war, launching 18 new original shows

Online food ordering and delivery app Zomato on Friday announced the launch of Zomato Originals, the company's upcoming video streaming segment. As part of its diversification, Zomato will launch a bunch of original shows on its platform starting next week. Zomato said it is launching 18 original shows starting September 16 for the next three months.

Zomato original shows will be available through a dedicated tab for videos in the Zomato app. Apart from shows, Zomato will also host more than 2000 videos (recipes and Sneak Peek restaurant stories included) Zomato said videos would be categorised by genre. Zomato said all episodes are 3 to 15 minutes long and they are primarily shot in a vertical frame.

All Zomato original shows and videos will be around food, but with a twist, Zomato said. Zomato Originals will feature Indian celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor, actor and stand-up comedian Sumukhi Suresh, comedian Sahil Shah, social media star Janice Sequeira and more.
“We are constantly looking for new ways to engage our users around food. Most of our users visit our app several times a week. This presents us with an opportunity to further delight our users using Zomato Originals” said Deepinder Goyal, CEO and Founder, Zomato.
“We combined all things food with binge-worthy genres and came up with a diverse slate of shows,” added, Durga Raghunath, Senior Vice President, Growth, Zomato. “With shows in both Hindi and English, we hope every corner of India will tune in to Zomato to hone their taste buds.”
Zomato has reached more than 70 million monthly active users and 1.4 million premium Zomato Gold subscribers. Zomato is available in more than 500 Indian cities, claiming over 1.3 million orders every day.
