Copilot+ PCs get a major update: Microsoft today announced the roll out of Windows 11 2024 update, which is also known as Windows 11 24H2. In addition to that, the company also announced a host of new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered features that will be available on Copilot+ PCs later this year. The list of features not only includes Recall, which was announced at the time of the launch of the Copilot+PCs earlier this year, but also tools such as Super Resolution and Improved Search.
"AI is continuing to transform how we use our PCs. Today, we’re excited to take the next step on our journey with the announcement of new AI-powered features for Copilot+ PCs and Windows 11," Microsoft's Corporate VP of Windows and Devices wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Here are all the new features coming to Microsoft's Copilot+ PCs:
Recall
As mentioned before, this feature was announced when Microsoft introduced its Copilot+ PCs earlier this year. It enables users to find anything that they have seen or done on their PCs by searching using the clues that they remember. "Once you’ve found what you're looking for, you can quickly jump back to the content seen in the snapshot by selecting the relaunch button below the screenshot," Microsoft wrote in a support page explaining the feature.
Microsoft says that it will start rolling out Recall feature to Snapdragon powered Copilot+ PCs in October and to Intel and AMD-powered PCs in November.
Super Resolution
This feature is available within the Photos app, and it enables users to enhance their old low-resolution photos using on-device AI. Microsoft says that this feature can increase the resolution by up to 8x.
Generative Fill and Erase
The updated Paint app uses AI to create images based on the description provided by users. Microsoft says that with the updated generative fill and generative erase feature users can edit and alter images, which includes removing unwanted or distracting elements, with greater precision.
Updated Search
Lastly, Microsoft is also bringing improved Search to the Windows Copilot+ PCs. The updated Search enables users to look for files and folders using the clues that they remember about the file instead of remembering the name of the file.
"You can even find photos in OneDrive by describing the content in the same way. And, thanks to the power of the 40+ TOPS NPU onboard Copilot+ PCs, it works even when you’re not connected to the internet," Microsoft wrote in its blog.
The company also said that the improved Search will first be available with the File Explorer. The company will expand it to Windows Search and Settings in the coming months.
