Facebook suspends 155 Chinese accounts for influencing American & Philippines politics

Social media giant Facebook removed 155 Chinese accounts accused of exhibiting "inauthentic behaviour" and interfering in the Philippines and American politics

Social media giant Facebook removed 155 Chinese accounts accused of exhibiting "inauntic behaviour" and interfering in Philippines and American politics, company said in a statement on Tuesday.

Most of banned accounts have been accused of spreing pro-China propaganda including posting content supporting China's aggressive posturing in  South China Sea. Some have been accused of spamming material opposing US President Donald Trump and favouring Demorct rival Joe Biden. Ors, largely followed by accounts and ps from  Philippines, were in support of Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte.

Facebook cybersecurity policy chief Nathaniel Gleicher while dressing issue revealed that content posted by se Chinese accounts largely centred around fueling both sides of American election while some aimed mainly at building an audience. Gleicher ded that this was first major takedown of Chinese-based accounts by Facebook and action was taken on accounts of "foreign-interference with any engment in US politics."

fake American accounts h around 3,000 followers while those centres around Philippines politics h close to 100,000 accounts viewing ir activities.  operation's US assets included a Facebook group called "Biden Harris 2020" that h around 1,400 members, posting content in support of Democrat candidates. Earlier Trump and his intelligence officials h said that China was favouring Democratic challenger Joe Biden.

In Philippines, accounts supported incumbent President Duterte and his daughter, who is said to succeed him in 2022. 

massive crackdown on Chinese accounts was also carried on Facebook's or social networking platform Instagram, where company suspended six inauntic accounts for same reasons.
