Apple to launch long-rumoured 16-inch MacBook Pro this week 

Apple will ‘silently’ launch its long-rumoured 16-inch MacBook Pro, its biggest laptop ever, this week, according to a 9to5mac report. The report has seemingly been corroborated by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman adding credence to the launch window. Apple is reportedly hosting private briefings for members of the press in New York City, this week, and going by the nature of such events, there should be an embargo for when they can publish their views on the upcoming product – that's in addition to Apple’s own press release that’s likely to make it all official before any of this happens.  

16-inch MacBook Pro with scissor keyboard incoming

The 16-inch MacBook Pro is duly awaited. Not just because it is expected to be Apple’s biggest laptop and not just because it is expected to be a ‘pro’ while at it, but because the upcoming MacBook Pro is expected to finally replace the controversial butterfly keyboard with a more reliable scissor mechanism.  

So far, Apple has been tweaking the butterfly keyboard design to find a fix – the mechanism has become a big question mark on Apple’s engineering genius that has long been raved for its high-quality standards. Its last update added a rubber membrane to individual keys to keep dust and debris from getting inside – but clearly it wasn’t enough. For social media is abuzz with users complaining about failing keys - and Apple itself, continuing its tryst to find that ‘perfect’ solution. 

In its fourth such refresh, Apple is now using “new materials” inside the mechanism that are said to “significantly reduce the occurrence of double and missed key presses.”’ 

The upcoming 16-inch MacBook Pro is expected to simply go back to the old-school ways instead of trying for another fix to Apple’s ‘butterfly’ conundrum. And I am sure many would be hoping for that to happen because the MacBook Pro is one stellar piece of tech minus that wonky keyboard.  

The 16-inch MacBook Pro is also expected to pack a few more tweaks – especially in design. This one is said to come with even smaller bezels. The Touch Bar is also reportedly set to get a revision.
