Apple Watch Series 3 might not get WatchOS 9, tipped to lose support later this year

The Apple Watch Series 3 may reach its end-of-life in the third quarter of 2022 as its computing power would not meet the requirements of the new WatchOS 9.

Apple Watch might be discontinued later this year. At Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple could anunce WatchOS 9 and smartwatch might t be able to support update, hence reaching end of its life. Launched in 2017, Apple Watch 3 is oldest smartwatch by company to support latest WatchOS 8. According to kwn Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple Watch Series 3 may reach its end-of-life in third quarter of 2022 as its computing power would t meet requirements of new WatchOS, i.e. WatchOS 9. Apple Watch 3 comes with a relatively old processor called Apple S3, which is a dual-core chip. Additionally, device has 768MB of RAM and 16GB of internal stor.

Apple Watch Series 3 might lose software support soon

In comparison, latest Apple Watch Series 8 has come a long way as it has new Apple S7 chip and comes with 32GB of internal stor. Apple has made some very ticeable improvements in its latest smartwatch. For instance, it w comes with a Retina LTPO OLED display that can achieve up to 1000 nits of peak brightness and runs on watchOS 8. 

As of w, Apple Watch Series 3 GPS is available from Rs. 20,900 on Apple website. On Flipkart, Apple Watch Series 3 (38mm) is available from Rs. 19,900 for GPS version. Given that Apple Watch SE is priced around Rs. 30,000, it would be a better option than Apple Watch Series 3 at this point in time, as those who buy Apple Watch Series 3 might lose software support in a few months.
