Long-term Apple analyst Ming-Chi Quo says the next Apple Watch, likely to be called the Apple Watch Series 6, will pack Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) sourced from Dongshan Precision, Avary Holding, and Flexium Interconnect. The use of LCP will boost network connectivity (wireless/cellular) in the Apple Watch Series 6 hopefully entailing in speedier, more stable connections across the board.

LCPs have a couple of unique advantages that make this tech desirable for a broad range of applications and devices ranging from car sensors to optical cables. The tech is said to offer consistent performance with minimal loss, and because it has a very low thermal expansion coefficient it can maintain stability across even at fluctuating temperatures. Apple is said to use the same LCP technology inside the upcoming iPhone SE 2, tipped to launch sometime in Q1 2020, again by Kuo.

Moreover, the next Apple Watch – which isn’t expected to launch before the second half of next year – will offer faster performance and improved water resistance over the current-generation Apple Watch Series 5, according to Kuo. By how much exactly, is something only time will tell.

Kuo has had a fabled history with Apple related predictions which means the analyst could well be right about this one as well.

The current-generation Apple Watch Series 5 is an incremental update to last year’s Apple Watch Series 4 that comes with an all-new always-on Retina display, new titanium/ceramic finish, international emergency calling and compass built in. The core hardware remains the same as the Apple Watch Series 4.

The new highlight is the software. The Apple Watch Series 5 ships with watchOS 6 that brings, among other things, a dedicated app store to Apple’s wearable. Some of the other new features of watchOS 6 include a menstrual cycle tracking app, a noise app for detecting sound levels that could negatively impact hearing, a new trends tab in the activity app for tracking long-term progress, and new Watch faces for customization.

The Apple Watch Series 5 starts at Rs 40,900 in India – this is for the GPS-only model. The Apple Watch Series 5 model with GPS and Cellular meanwhile starts at Rs 49,900.
