Indian engineering student develops a ₹500 device to ensure social distancing
An Indian student has created a device which vibrates and glows in case someone breaches the user's safe space of one metre. Read on for all the details.

Indians have been placed under complete lockdown to combat coronavirus pandemic, with only essential services accessible to people. Those who have to step out of ir homes are concerned about ir safety and try to keep a safe distance from strangers in an effort to avoid infection. However, if you were having any problems trying to maintain a safe distance from strangers, an engineering student claims to have found a solution to that problem by developing a small device which is said to help people keep a track of a lot of things.

Prabin Kumar Das, a B-Tech student, along with his professors at Lovely Professional University, Punjab, has come up with a small IoT pendant called Kawach (shield) that has been specifically designed to promote social distancing among people. device has been loed with a number of sensors that assists user by t only keeping a track of ir health but also tifying m by vibrating and glowing if y are getting too close to a person, breaching mandatory one-metre distance.

pendant also comes equipped with a vibration motor that vibrates every thirty minutes, to remind user to wash ir hands. Apart from this, pendant also features a rmal sensor which monitors wearer’s body temperature in case ir body temperature crosses rmal levels. wearer gets tified about same through an SMS on ir phone.

Dr Lovi Raj Gupta, Executive Dean of Science and Techlogy, Lovely Professional University, has stated that device is ir effort to contain spre of dely coronavirus as whole world grapples to find a vaccine for disease. He ded that device enables a user to achieve just that by warning m in case ir safe is breached. Gupta furr ded that Kawach also offers a handwash reminder which is a very handy tool in se times.
device has been currently priced at ₹500 per unit. makers say that if device is mass-produced, its price could be furr reduced to ₹400 per unit.
