Samsung Galaxy S25 series unlikely to have battery upgrades

The Samsung Galaxy S25 series, expected to arrive early next year, may bring many notable upgrades but the battery may not be one of them. A new report has highlighted that the batteries on Galaxy S25 smartphones may be the same as the existing Galaxy S24 devices, meaning while there may be performance improvements with newer chipsets, the battery will not make up for the added power consumption.

Dutch publication GalaxyClub has suggested the Galaxy S25 and the Galaxy S25 Ultra will use 4000mAh and 5000mAh batteries, respectively. Their predecessors use the same batteries, which work in tandem with Exynos and Snapdragon chipsets on the Galaxy S24 lineup. Similarly, the Galaxy S25 Plus will have a battery of a typical capacity of 4900mAh – the same as the Galaxy S24 Plus’s battery. While the report does not say what impact the unchanged battery capacities would have on the daily usage of the Galaxy S25 series, the lack of batteries with higher capacity may reduce the runtimes, especially when the processors are due for an upgrade with the next generation of phones.

That is not all. Samsung may also retain the charging speeds on the upcoming Galaxy S25 series. While the Ultra and Plus models may feature 45W fast charging, the standard S25 model may come with 25W wired charging. Samsung has not increased its phones’ battery charging capacities for generations, while brands such as Oppo and Xiaomi offer fast charging technologies with up to 200W speed. On the other hand, Samsung’s close rival Apple has also not upgraded the charging capabilities of its iPhone.

In addition to the battery details, two Galaxy S25 series phones have previously been leaked to come with the same cameras as the Galaxy S24 series. The Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Plus may have the same cameras as the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus. Only the Galaxy S25 Ultra is said to get camera improvements. Its cameras will likely include a 200MP main sensor, a 50MP ultrawide sensor, a 50MP 3x telephoto sensor, and a 50MP 5x periscope telephoto sensor. Another report, however, said Samsung would only upgrade the ultrawide camera on the next Ultra model while retaining other sensors.
