The Galaxy Watch Active, purported successor to the Gear Sport, has leaked online ahead of Samsung’s February 20 Galaxy S10 Unpacked event giving us a first-hand look at the Tizen-powered wearable. The biggest change is said to be in the way one usually interacts with a Tizen OS-based wearable. Unlike its most recent predecessors, the Galaxy Watch Active will come sans a rotating ring. It will also reportedly be smaller and pack a smaller battery in comparison to the Gear Sport.

One of the defining features of Samsung’s Tizen-based smartwatches has been their rotating rings. These rings are so seamlessly integrated with the wearable’s software that you don’t even need to touch the wearable’s screen for day to day usage. The next-generation Galaxy Watch Active is said to come without a rotating ring which should leave every task dependent on actual touch-based interactions.

What would make matters worse is the upcoming wearable’s display size. The Galaxy Watch Active will reportedly come with a smaller 1.1-inch AMOLED display as opposed to the Gear Sport that came with a 1.2-inch screen. Touch-based interactions on a screen so small would be a challenge, so it would be interesting to see how Samsung is looking to pull this off.

The Galaxy Watch Active is further said to pack a smaller 236mAh battery as opposed to the Gear Sport that came with a 300mAh battery. Charging is said to be updated in the Galaxy Watch Active. It will reportedly come with a horizontal pad as opposed to the 90-degree angle required in the case of the Gear Sport. This falls in line with reports that say that the Galaxy S10 will come 9W reverse wireless charging feature which means that the phone will be able to act as a wireless charging mat for other compatible devices like smartwatches and smartphones. It’s safe to say you can add the Galaxy Watch Active to that list as well.

Moving on, the Galaxy Watch Active is said to come with an Exynos 9110 processor with 4GB of storage. Connectivity options will reportedly include Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, and Wi-Fi.
