Samsung’s new Galaxy A16 5G puts six years of software support on mid-range phone

Samsung has launched Galaxy A16, its new mid-range smartphone with six years of Android version updates and security patches. That is a first in industry for a phone at this cost, even though Samsung ensures up to seven years of software support on its high-end Galaxy S and Galaxy Z devices. Galaxy A16 5G is a significant upgre over Galaxy A15 5G, bringing discernible changes, such as a bigger AMOLED display.

It is powered by Samsung’s Exynos 1330 processor, but its Indian and Thai variants may use MediaTek Dimensity 6300. smartphone has 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, along with support for a microSD card of up to 1.5TB.

Based on Android 14-based OneUI 6.1, Samsung Galaxy A16 5G has a 50MP main, a 5MP ultrawide, and a 2MP macro camera on back. Its selfie camera features a 13MP sensor, housed inside a waterdrop notch on display. smartphone packs a 5000mAh battery that supports 25W charging and has an IP54 rating for water and dust resistance. It also has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
