After the Donald Trump-led administration imposed restrictions on Huawei’s technology-related businesses in the United States (US), there has now been a 90-days rollback period on the restrictions imposed on Huawei potentially allowing the company to continue to provide existing updates and services so as to maintain uniformity.
As per Reuters, Huawei could continue to procure goods locally manufactured in the US to offer software updates to existing customers and continue to maintain intact their current networks. However, there are restrictions on Huawei in case new products must be manufactured in the US by utilizing components manufactured by US firms. As per laws, approvals would be required by Huawei to manufacture newer products.

Now, the latest 90-day “relaxation period” is reportedly to ensure that Huawei’s existing systems and networks do not go into immediate maintenance and offer room to the company to seed all essential updates affecting the stability of systems/networks in the US.
As of now, the US Commerce authorities reportedly stated that they would check if the 90-day period could be further extended.

However, it seems like Huawei has its own strategies set in case of eventualities. These include the likes of Huawei manufacturing components that are currently being purchased from US companies/manufacturers. The company also reportedly stated that it would not resort to end trade with US components manufacturers.
Reuters quotes Ren Zhengfei (Founder at Huawei) who stated in an interview with CCTV (translated) that the momentary relief was of minor relevance to the company. Earlier, Huawei was added to the “entity list” indicating that it could not do business with US companies. This even led to Google announcing compliance with the governmental directives; whilst allowing updates only to existing users.

“We assure you while we are complying with all US government requirements, services like Google Play & security from Google Play Protect will keep functioning on your existing Huawei device,” stated Google in an official tweet.
