For those unaware, Xiaomi isn’t just about crazy affordable smartphones. Xiaomi also sells crazy affordable smart TVs. And just like its smartphones, it seems, Xiaomi’s Mi TVs are also doing ridiculously well in India. At least, that’s what the numbers seem to suggest. Xiaomi, on Friday, announced that it has sold 20 lakh Mi TVs in India in 14 months (since launch). “Despite their entry into a relatively nascent smart TV industry in India, Xiaomi’s Mi LED TVs have gained massive popularity among millions of consumers and Mi Fans,” Xiaomi said in a statement, adding that the “Mi LED TV 4A Pro 43, Mi LED Smart TV 4A 43, Mi LED TV 4A Pro 32, and Mi LED TV 4C Pro 32 have been some of its most popular models.

Xiaomi literally took India’s smart TV market by storm when it launched the 55-inch Mi TV 4 in India last year – a 55-inch 4K-ready smart TV that was also very sleek and good looking for Rs 39,999 was hard to imaging at that time. A year later, Xiaomi has built up a comprehensive portfolio of smart LED TVs in India ranging from around Rs 13,000 to around 40,000 – there's a little something for everybody. Xiaomi has also built up stocks. Initially sold online only, and through flash sales, Xiaomi’s Mi TVs are now readily available across online as well as across over 500 Mi Preferred Partner stores across 9 cities from where potential buyers can ‘experience and buy’ these products.

Xiaomi’s current-generation Mi TVs come with a dual interface – PatchWall and stock Android TV – and allow users to switch between the two at will. PatchWall is Xiaomi’s home-grown OS thatg is based on "deep learning AI that references metadata to make intelligent content recommendations tailored to you," according to Xiaomi, which means that it can learn from users’ viewing habits and show and suggest content accordingly. Android TV support, meanwhile, allows users to install apps directly from the Play Store.

But there most important feature, that makes a lot of sense in India, is that Xiaomi’s Mi TVs support almost every prominent set-top box, from Tata Sky to the ones offered by local players like Hathway.
