Apple won't manufacture iPhone 11 in India, displays reliance on China - Report

Apple initially had plans to move its production of iPhones to India; however, the company believes that India lacks skilled labour. Read on for all details.

Apple is reportedly t keen on producing its flagship iPhones models in India despite considering setting up new factories over past years. A report by Wall Street Journal said that after analysing current situation of production halt in China due to coronavirus outbreak, India was t deemed suitable by Apple for manufacturing ir iPhone 11 series units, despite Apple’s push into country in recent past.

report also suggested that production of iPhone 11 will likely t take place in India due to  lack of skilled labour and robust infrastructure facilities in country.

It also ded that company’s senior executives displayed reluctance over moving ir production factories outside of China to countries like India and Vietnam, although re were repeated attempts by company’s operations team.

In past, Apple h even planned to relocate manufacturing of iPhone 11 to Indi; however, idea h to be rejected later over  fear that it may potentially jeopardise product's sales in China that accounts for nearly a fifth of its total revenue. availability of English-speaking affordable skilled labour in China was ar major factor that kept Apple from letting go, report ded.

report furr ded that as per a Foxconn executive, Apple is unlikely to make shift due to a poor supply chain and that labours available in India are t rey to manufacture high-end, organic light-emitting diode models. Foxconn is a third-party producer of iPhones and does mass-scale productions in China and India.

Meanwhile, Apple continues to produce some of its older iPhone models in India, and moving production of iPhone 11 in India as well could have been a major shift in company’s strategy.
