Chinese smartphone brands viz Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, and Realme have now clocked up a combined 42% market share in Q2 2019. However, the overall smartphone shipments declined 1.2% year-on-year during the same period, thereby representing a consecutive decline over seven quarters.

This data, as per a Counterpoint Research report, also states that Oppo Spin-off Realme reported a staggering  848% growth in shipments during Q2 2019. The number of units sold during this period was reportedly 4.7 million, compared to 0.5 million units it sold during Q2 2018. Realme has been a new entrant into the smartphone scenario.

“Heavy marketing, faster portfolio refresh, high spec devices at aggressive prices, and multi-channel presence are some of the key reasons why Chinese brands fared better than the local and global OEMs. These brands have been aggressively expanding outside China and achieving growth offsetting the saturation in their home market. Their strategies and product portfolios are more aligned to the local needs and preferences, which is one of their key strengths,” stated Varun Mishra who is Research Analyst at Counterpoint Research.

As far as Samsung is concerned, the South Korea brand reported 7.1% growth in its global smartphone segments with 76.6 million units being shipped during Q2 2019. In Q2 2018, Samsung reportedly clocked 71.5 million smartphone shipments.

Then, Huawei facing a ban in the United States of America (USA) grew by 4.6%. In the same time, Apple shipments fell considerably; the Cupertino-based company reportedly registered 10.1% global smartphone shipments share during the second quarter of 2019. During this period, Apple sold36.4 million units representing an 11.9% decline in comparison to 41.3% in Q2 2018.
