How to get started with Android Q?
If you have registered as a Google developer for the first time, or just desirous of checking out on beginning with the exploration of Android Q beta Developer Preview, then check out below steps to get started:
Get enrolled: If you have a Google Pixel mobile device, you could here to register the hardware. You could also use an emulator.
Here, remember that the list of Pixel devices eligible for the latest Android Q Developer Preview are Google Pixel XL, Pixel, Pixel 2XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 3 XL, and the Pixel 3. If you should set up an Emulator to run the beta, then resort to the below:
- Set up a new virtual device and install the newest system image
- Once in the Android Studio, navigate to Tools > SDK Manager
- Within the SDK Platforms tab, choose Show Package Details present below the window.
- From beneath Android Q Beta, choose a custom system image such as Google APIs Intel x86 Atom System Image.
- Within the SDK Tools tab, select the latest version of Android Emulator.
- Select OK to begin the installation process.
- Post the installation, choose Tools > AVD Manager and follow the on-screen instructions to create a new AVD.
- Ensure to choose a device definition, not including Play Store, and select Q for system image.
- Upon returning to the AVD Manager virtual devices list, launch the newly created virtual device by double-ing it.
Alternatively, you could manually download and flash Android Q beta within the above Google Pixel series of smartphones. Registered developers would also be able to install Android Q beta, via over-the-air (OTA).
