Google Pixel 4 fresh leaked images tease motion sense, face unlock 

Serial tipster Evan Blass has managed to get his hands on a slew of promo images of the upcoming Pixel 4 – to be launched on October 15. Not that anything’s new, but here’s what we’re getting this time round – the promo renders highlight the phone’s two marquee features, Motion Sense and advanced face unlock. Both these features will come courtesy Google’s in-house Soli tech, something that the company has also confirmed at length.  

Just to refresh, Soli is Google’s in-house motion sensing tech that uses a miniaturized radar capable of sensing small motions around the device. 

The Pixel 4 will have a wide array of sensors at the top of the screen (which explains the thick forehead we’re seeing in leaked renders of the phone) - including a new Soli chip that will bring Motion Sense features to the phone, allowing you “to skip songs, snooze alarms, and silence phone calls, just by waving your hand.” 

Soli will also bring advanced face unlock to the Pixel 4 (with a combination of dedicated face unlock hardware including a pair of IR cameras and flood illuminator). Google claims that the Pixel 4 will be able to offer a face unlock experience that’s easier, faster, and more secure than rivals, such as the iPhone XS’ Face ID. Google’s tech seemingly “won’t require you to lift the device all the way up, pose in a certain way, wait for it to unlock, and then swipe to get to the homescreen,” and it will “work in almost any orientation - even if you're holding it upside down.” 

The fresh renders show both the features in action. While all of this tech may seem exciting, not all the new Soli features of the Pixel 4, maybe available in all markets. Google is gearing to launch the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL phones on October 15 in New York City. There will also be other products, including a new Pixelbook Go that’s also leaked in full much to Google’s dismay.
