Has PUBG really been banned by a High Court in India? Here’s the answer

What looks like a notice issued by ‘Maharashtra High Court’ imposing a ban on a mobile game PUBG is nothing but a hoax, according to reports. In a letter pretending to come from the Government of India dated December 22, a viral message on social media claimed that PUBG Mobile has been banned by the ‘High Court of Maharashtra.’ 

According to new reports, the viral message making rounds on social media is, in fact, fake news. The letter has way too many grammatical errors raising questions on its authenticity. Few reports have also cited the format in which this notice was drafted. Furthermore, the notice was signed by a ‘prejudge’ K. Srinivasulu. Well, there is absolutely no such position as ‘prejudge’ in the Indian judiciary system.

As per the viral notice, one of the main reasons to ban PUBG was because it is creating a lot of nuisance and apparently causing students to spoil their lives by being addicted to the game.

A few days ago, men’s hostel in Tamil Nadu’s Vellore Institue of Technology (VIT) issued a notice restraining students from playing the game in their hostel rooms.

PUBG has turned out to be a gaming sensation in India over the last few months. It won Google Play Store’s best mobile game title for 2018. Hence, if any restrictions need to be imposed, they need to come directly from users in the form of self-control and not the authorities.
