The Huawei Mate X is off to a blazing start, so it seems. Huawei’s first foldable phone, the Mate X, went on sale in China – for the first time ever – on November 15 and was out of stock in a matter of minutes. Huawei isn’t giving out any number though. All we know is that the Mate X will go on sale again – in China – on November 22. There’s still no word when Huawei will bring the Mate X to global markets.
The much-delayed Huawei Mate X was supposed to land in October (internationally), after having missed its initial target of making its way to the market by the middle of the year – following the US trade clampdown. Huawei relaunched the Mate X in China in late October at a price of CNY 16,999 which roughly translates to Rs 1,70,600.

Huawei has previously confirmed that it will launch the Mate X foldable phone in India in the second half of this year – it would be interesting to see if that plan stays put. In China, the Mate X is launching minus Google services, and chances are something similar will happen in India also should Huawei bring the foldable to India.
Huawei Mate X specs and features
The Mate X was first announced at MWC 2019 and belongs to the first wave of next-generation foldable devices. It’s Huawei’s answer to the Samsung Galaxy Fold which is already available for buying in India. The way the Mate X approaches the foldable route is different from Samsung though.

The Mate X’s OLED display folds outwards giving users access to three screen sizes – two independent smartphone-like screens with 6.6-inch and 6.38-inch sizes respectively, and an 8-inch tablet form factor. Huawei calls it a falcon wing design.
In terms of core hardware, the Mate X packs Huawei’s Kirin 980 flagship processor. It was speculated that Huawei may tweak the internals and relaunch the Mate X with its new Kirin 990 processor, but that isn’t the case. Huawei will launch an updated Mate X, called the Mate XS, with Kirin 990 in China in March next year.
