The era of the punch-hole selfie camera is upon us. Soon after subsidiary Honor gave the world a brief look at the View 20, parent company Huawei has launched the Nova 4, a phone that similarly tries to offer more screen real estate by punching a hole upfront to house an in-screen selfie camera. It is all screen from thereon. Although Honor has kept many details about the Honor View 20 a closely guarded secret, Huawei has formally announced the phone for the Chinese market with full specs and pricing.

The Nova 4 will be available in two versions to boot in China to begin with. One of these will be a higher-end version with a triple rear camera setup consisting of a whopping 48MP primary shooter. The lower-end version – if you can call it that – will replace it with a more mainstream 20MP primary camera. Rest of the specifications remain the same.

In terms of core specifications, the Huawei Nova 4 comes with a 6.4-inch 1080p+ IPS LCD display. It is powered by Huawei’s in-house Kirin 970 processor which is a little surprising since the Honor View 20, with similar aspirations, packs a more powerful and a more recent Kirin 980 processor. The Nova 4 further comes with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. It runs Android 9 Pie-based EMUI 9 and is backed by a 3,750mAh battery with 18W USB Type-C fast charging.

In terms of optics, the Nova 4 comes with three rear cameras. While the primary shooter in the case of the higher-end Nova 4 is a 48MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture, the lower-end variant of the phone comes with a 20MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture. Both the variants sport a 16MP ultra-wide sensor with f/2.2 aperture and a 2MP depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture.

The top-end version of the Nova 4 will sell for CNY 3,399 while the lower-end version will be available for CNY 3,099. Huawei should eventually bring the Nova 4 to India although there is no official word from the company yet.
