iPhone 11 will charge over Lightning and not USB Type-C, Apple to bundle slow 5W charger in the box: Report

The next iPhone, the 2019 iPhone or iPhone 11 or whatever Apple decides to call it, will stick with Lightning for charging, data syncing and audio out, according to a new report. The same report suggests Apple will also stick with bundling a slow 5W charger and USB Type-A to Lightning cable in the box. Just like how it has always been. Starting last year, Apple has stopped bundling a Lightning to 3.5mm dongle in the box, and chances are the same may be true about the next iPhone as well. All of this is apparently geared towards cutting costs, so your next iPhone won’t be as expensive as putting all this in, will make it. 

There have been reports that Apple is testing versions of the iPhone 2019 that ditch its Lightning port for USB Type-C charging and while it isn’t clear if Apple will go ahead with this, this year, the new report suggests we might have to wait longer to get an iPhone with USB Type-C. And, hopefully it will pack a fast charger in the box someday. iPhones have been supporting fast charging since the iPhone 8 days, but Apple never bundles a fast charger in the box leaving users who want to make use of the tech no choice but to buy one separately. 

Regardless, here is what the next iPhone will most definitely bring to the table: a faster processor and possibly faster Face ID, in addition to new and improved cameras. One of the iPhone 11s, possibly the iPhone 11 Max, will come with three rear cameras, according to a recent Bloomberg report. 

The current-generation iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max both have the same dual rear cameras. The iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, in fact, share many hardware features with each other. The biggest difference comes in the form of size. While the iPhone XS is a 5.8-inch iPhone, the iPhone XS Max has a larger 6.5-inch display. Should the iPhone 11 Max pack three cameras, and the smaller iPhone 11 sport two or less, it would set greater differentiation – beyond just size -- between the two upcoming iPhones. 

The third sensor in the iPhone XS successor will be wide-angle and will be also able to “capture more pixels so Apple software could, for example, automatically repair a video or photo to fit in a subject that may have been accidentally cut off from the initial shot.”  

Apple is also said to be reworking on its Live Photos feature with double the current length. 

The iPhone 11 will have three models, to replace the existing iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR. The iPhone XR successor will still fall in line with its affordable roots and will reportedly come with two rear cameras. Apple isn’t looking to go the all-OLED route just yet which means the iPhone XR successor will still come with an LCD display while the more premiere iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Max will boast of OLED screens.
