Kamini Roy, who is the first woman graduate to secure an honours degree in British India, has now been honoured by internet search engine giant Google in a new doodle. This new doodle is in continuation with Google’s recent initiatives where lesser-known talents from India are brought to light. Their achievements are also uniquely showcased through these doodles. Also, 12 October marks the 155th birth anniversary of Roy who is also one amongst those who championed the cause of women empowerment.

Google’s doodle on Roy has also generated massive buzz on social media. Netizens (twitterati) have taken to paying tributes to the true feminist of modern India.. Roy was born on 12 October 1864, and passed away in 1933 at the age of 69. Now, with Google having immortalized her, Roy joins a list of other illustrious Indians who have in their own way contributed to the society through various mediums. Prominent among these are Kannada film superstar Dr Rajkumar (who also had a high societal concern, and showcased it through movies), Punjabi poet Amrita Pritam, first woman legislator of independent India Muthulakshmi Reddi, World Earth Day, and more; in tandem with that of the famous people.

In yet another interesting Doodle-related news, worth remembering now, Google doodled its own 21st birthday. This doodle was an interesting one and depicted Google’s journey from being a search engine giant during times when, the internet was considered as a luxury, to still retaining the top position as a web search engine. The Google 21st birthday doodle depicts an old desktop computer complete with a CRT monitor. You should remember that, back then, all we had were bulky computers and not the swanky/sleek laptops and ultra-thin tablets which are ruling the roost today. This doodle is also an illustration about the evolution of micro/nano technology. here to check out the 21st birthday doodle by Google, in case you have not already.
