With smartphones today having even turned into a photographer's delight, courtesy cameras embedded with high-end configurations to provide for a relatively effective multimedia experience, it makes sense for manufacturers of these handsets to manufacture hardware catering to even the photography/multimedia micro community. Now, in a new development, there could be phones incorporating as many as 16 camera lenses within the same hardware.

A 16-camera lens smartphone could be in the works considering the fact that South-Korean smartphone brand LG is said to be mulling about the possibility of coming out with such an innovation in the near future. This is courtesy of new patent filings, filed by LG, reported by LetsGoDigital, makes mentions about a smartphone featuring a whopping 16 camera lenses.

The patent, also theoretically indicates about the possibility of the LG 16 camera smartphone being a multimedia enthusiast’s delight considering the fact that 16 cameras would at least on paper mean that users could capture multimedia content from more than multiple perspectives (photographic views as well). This could even best the iPhone as well in case good resolution photography/videography is offered.

However, at this juncture, the above development is seemingly restricted to only a patent filing which offers cues about LG’s intention to launch a 16 camera smartphone. Nonetheless, the positives to take out from this rumoured development is the fact that next-gen of smartphones could potentially replace cameras in totality. The premium Apple iPhones which are known for their offering of effective cameras could also come under intense competition if phones with more than multiple snappers (resolution matters obviously)
are launched.
