Oops! Samsung caught using a DSLR photo to promote its phone’s camera capabilities and it's not the first time

In what could be an embarrassing news, Samsung has been caught using a photo taken on DSLR to promote Galaxy A8 Star’s camera capabilities on the company's Hong Kong website. In what could be an embarrassing news, Samsung has been caught using a photo taken on DSLR to promote Galaxy A8 Star’s camera capabilities on the company's Hong Kong website. What’s even more surprising is that this, in fact, isn’t the first time Samsung is making headlines for trying to pull such a trick. Earlier this year in Brazil, Samsung was caught promoting stock photos as Galaxy A8’s camera samples on Twitter.

In the recent incident, Serbian photographer Dunja Djudjic, who shot the photo herself, was informed by EyeEm that one of her photos was sold on Getty. Out of curiosity, she explains, she performed a reverse photo search only to find out that the photo was used on Samsung Galaxy A8 Star’s landing page in Hong Kong.

The photo spotted on Samsung’s website was photoshopped to an extent that one can easily spot the difference between the two. She further explained in her blog post that Samsung ended up using (and photoshopping) her picture only to promote the Galaxy A8 Star’s portrait mode instead of using the actual pictures shot on the phone in question.

Here is what Dunja Djudjic had to say:

“My first reaction was to burst out into laughter. Just look at the Photoshop job they did on my face and hair! I’ve always liked my natural hair color (even though it’s turning gray black and white), but I guess the creator of this franken-image prefers reddish tones. Except in the eyes though, where they removed all of the blood vessels.”

Samsung did not only photoshop Djudjic’s face but completely changed the original background. Djudjic said that she was not able to verify if Samsung was the genuine purchaser of the photo or not.
