Oppo, a company that claims to be a “leader in the offline channel” has announced that it will make its online-only debut in India with its upcoming K-series. Oppo will launch the first smartphone in the K-series, aka the Oppo K1, in India on February 6, the company announced on Friday. Oppo is partnering with Flipkart to sell its K-series smartphones in India, it added.
“Oppo is a leader in the offline channel and wants to venture into the online space with its 1st ever online only series. Flipkart is a leader in smartphones with more than 65 per cent online share and hence, has been the choice of partner for Oppo,” Oppo said in a press statement.

The Oppo K1, will be a “power packed device available at a competitive price range and feature an in-display fingerprint scanner,” according to Oppo. No further details have been shared, although it seems like the Oppo K1 will be one of the most affordable smartphones in India to pack an in-display fingerprint scanner.
Sister brand Vivo already has a mass-market product called the Vivo V11 Pro in India that brings an in-display fingerprint scanner at around Rs 25,000. A successor to the Vivo V11 Pro is expected to launch in India on February 20 and it is very likely that this phone – rumoured to be called the Vivo V15 Pro – will also come with an in-display fingerprint scanner.

The OnePlus 6T is another phone from another sister brand called OnePlus that also features an in-display fingerprint scanner, but it is a relatively more premium and more expensive smartphone.
With Oppo also looking to join the bandwagon in the days to come, all the BBK subsidiaries will have one device each with an in-display fingerprint scanner in India.

A teaser image shared by Oppo shows off a familiar Oppo phone, possibly with a red paintjob, and slim bezels. There’s also the all-familiar in-display fingerprint scanner animation in the bottom half of the screen, like how it is in the Vivo V11 Pro and the OnePlus 6T. More details are awaited.
