If you thought Oppo’s Reno 10x Zoom was crazy, well, the company has now launched an even crazier Reno 2 with whopping 20x zoom. Oppo’s Reno 2-series which is making its global debut in India on Wednesday has three phones in all - while the Reno 2 is of course the most premiere offering, the Reno 2Z and Reno 2F try to bring near similar experiences at even more affordable prices.

None of these phones, including the Reno 2, have been designed to replace the Reno 10x Zoom though - that still remains to be Oppo’s flagship offering.

The Reno 10x Zoom uses three cameras to achieve the golden 10x zoom figure -  a 48MP high-resolution main camera, a 120-degree ultra-wide camera and a periscopic telephoto camera. The Reno 2 doesn’t have any of that fancy periscope tech. Neither can it optically zoom as much - it can’t zoom as much via a combination of optical and digital either. It does have more cameras though. The Reno 2 comes with a quad rear camera setup consisting of a 48MP main camera (with Sony IMX586 sensor) with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, a 13MP telephoto camera, and a 2MP portrait lens. The phone supports 5x hybrid zoom and 20x digital zoom. The Reno 2 also comes with three mics and the ability to get focused audio while zooming into a subject - similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Note 10. There’s also an ultra steady video and ultra dark modes in the Reno 2.

The Reno 2 also comes with Oppo’s one-of-its-kind shark-fin pop-up front camera module. This one also supports bokeh videos.

The design is pretty reminiscent of the original Reno -  with a slight change in material. The back of the Reno 2 is carved out of Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The Reno 2 will be available in two colours - Luminous Black and Ocean Blue.

Speaking of specs, the Reno 2 comes with a 6.55-inch dynamic AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection. The Reno 2’a screen can go up to 800 nits in outdoor mode and there’s also support for the DCIP3 standard. For biometric authentication, the phone has an in-display fingerprint scanner (version 3.0). In terms of core hardware, the Reno 2 is India’s first smartphone which is powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 730G processor. This is paired with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB storage. The phone packs a 4,000mAh battery and supports Oppo’s VOOC 3.0 flash charge via USB Type-C.

The Reno 2Z and Reno 2F meanwhile share much of the design aesthetics of the Reno 2 but feature a conventional pop-up front camera. Both the phones have a slightly smaller 6.53-inch display but retain much of the Reno 2’s quad-camera setup.
