re has been a lot of discussion around 5G techlogy since end of last year after government expressed its plan on allocating spectrum for trials to all telecom providers in India. Reliance Jio has w approached government seeking permission to start conducting 5G network trials in country.
This comes after company entered into a deal with companies like Huawei, Ericsson, kia, and several or Chinese telecom providers to develop 5G network solutions that will work on open standards and support interoperability.

As stated by Reliance Jio President, Maw Oommen, company is putting in all efforts to come up with 5G and Open techlogies by working with OTIC to accelerate telecom industry transformation and boost option of industry-standard, interoperable O-RAN based deployments.

5G trials take a backseat due to AGR crisis?
Reliance Jio also stated earlier that company was rey to begin ir trials last year in February, however, it h to be delayed after government asked company to wait until or telecom operators submitted ir trial proposals. government h asked telecom companies to submit ir proposals on 5G in 2019.

Reliance Jio h earlier submitted an application with South Korean giant Samsung, however, company later anunced that it would broen its 5G trial runs with likes of Huawei Techlogies, Ericsson, and kia Networks rar than limiting itself to Samsung.
Vodafone and Airtel h also submitted ir respective proposals, however, it is believed that current AGR crisis has likely taken away attention from se trials.

Successful 5G trials would bring down Reliance Jio's dependence on Samsung
If trials prove to be a successful one, it will bring down company’s dependence on Samsung, who happens to sole vendor of 4G network solutions to Reliance Jio right w. Two years ago, Reliance h bought a US-based company, Risys, for worth over USD 67 million in an effort to boost its capabilities in 5G techlogy and Internet of Things. It is also worth pointing out that company’s move in area of 5G techlogy is a significant one as it has always been dominated by foreign companies. And if successful, it will make Reliance Jio first Indian company to develop its individual 5G design and techlogy in India.
