Samsung recently announced the world’s first 64MP smartphone camera sensor – the Samsung GW1 sensor. With Xiaomi and Realme already shipping devices with the 64MP sensor, it was only about time that Samsung also joined the bandwagon. In fact, reports that Samsung maybe working on a Galaxy A70s phone with a 64MP GW1 sensor have been doing the rounds since May. A new IANS report now suggests that the Galaxy A70s may be coming to India first – and as soon as by the end of this month.

Samsung Galaxy A70s with 64MP camera incoming

The report, that cites “informed sources,” suggests Samsung will launch the Galaxy A70s with a 64MP main camera in India later this month. The report adds that the Galaxy A70s will be available in two configurations and while the nature of these configurations isn’t known, Samsung is said to price the phone starting at around Rs 30,000. Moreover, the Galaxy A70s is said to come with a design scheme similar to that of the recently launched Galaxy A50s and A30s phones. The Galaxy A50s and Galaxy A30s, to refresh, have a new glossy dual-tone design setting them apart from past Galaxy A phones.

The main USP of the phone will undoubtedly be its 64MP camera. Samsung’s 64MP GW1 sensor works on the same principle as its 48MP GM1 and 32MP GD1 sensors – effectively producing sharper, more detailed 16MP photos in low light, and using software interpolation to produce high resolution 64MP photos as and when required.

Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 8 Pro and Realme’s XT are the only phones rocking a 64MP camera at this point of time.

The Galaxy A70, to recall, uses Samsung’s 32MP GD1 sensor on the front, while on the back it has three cameras - 32MP sensor (which is again, the same GD1 sensor), an 8MP ultra-wide sensor (with 120-degree field-of-view) and a 5MP sensor for depth sensing aka portrait photography. The Galaxy A70s, with a 64MP main camera, should ideally kick things up a notch.

Elsewhere, the Galaxy A70 comes with a 6.7-inch 1080p+ Super AMOLED display - its 20:9 aspect ratio is a first for any Samsung phone. The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage which is also expandable. The dual SIM phone runs Android 9 Pie-based One UI. The phone further packs a sizeable 4,500mAh battery with 25W fast charging through USB Type-C.
