Manufacturers may be in the race to be the first to introduce smartphones, but Apple is unlikely to be among the first.

Apple is Intel’s primary mobile phone customer and now an executive has revealed that the modems won’t be available in the market until 2020, The Verge reported.

This basically means no iPhone for a year more. There have been multiple other reports in Bloomberg and Fast Company, making similar claims about iPhone with 5G modems being a slightly distant reality.

Intel’s update on the late availability of the modem indicates Apple will once again take the slower route and wait for the technology to be perfect. Meanwhile, Samsung, Xiaomi, and Motorola are all introducing their 5G-enabled phones this year.

In related updates, 5G smartphones have already been unveiled - and the USP of this development is the fact that 5G-compatible devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G Edition would be live devices rather than restricted to mere prototypes. At this juncture, 5G has also been piloted by multiple wireless carriers in the United States of America (USA), with tie-ups also imminent with leading smartphone brands. Also, OnePlus made its 5G plans official very recently when it stated that there would be a focus of a 5G-enabled smartphone as a prototype at first.

Now, at the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC 2019), Chinese brand Huawei showcased a 5G smartphone that also comes with foldable screen. This device, like the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, would go commercial; again not relegated to a dumb prototype. Then, there is an exclusive summit at the MWC 2019 that would throw light on futuristic connectivity aspects; featured speakers for this session include the likes of Ir. Dino Flore - Vice President of Technology at Qualcomm, and Daniel C Rodriguez - Vice President at Intel.
