This is the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7S with Redmi Note 7-like glass back, 48MP camera launching in India on May 20 

Xiaomi isn’t keeping its upcoming affordable Redmi Note 7S a secret. The Redmi Note 7S is set to launch in India on May 20 but Xiaomi has revealed the full design, as well as a few key specs of the phone in question, well in advance. Xiaomi India head Manu Kumar Jain, in fact, has shared an image on Twitter where he is seen posing with the Redmi Note 7S - showing off the phone in all its glory. Well, mostly. 

So, here are the main takeaways. The Redmi Note 7S has an all-glass back - the glass is Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Similar to the Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro. The finish is more solid rather than a gradient, similar to the Redmi Note 7 - Manu is seen posing with the red variant of the phone but there could be more colours at launch.  

In a separate Twitter post, Xiaomi’s Redmi India handle has shown off the front schematic of the Redmi Note 7S - unsurprisingly, the phone comes with a teardrop-style notch that Xiaomi calls a dot notch. We’ve seen a similar design in the Redmi Note 7 and the Redmi Note 7 Pro (as well as the Redmi 7 and Redmi Y3). 

Although Xiaomi hasn’t revealed core hardware specs, it has confirmed that the Redmi Note 7S will come with a dual rear camera system with a 48MP primary sensor - it hasn’t confirmed the nature of the sensor though.  

Now, there’s a very high probably that Xiaomi is bringing the original Redmi Note 7 from China to India, as the re-branded Redmi Note 7S. Xiaomi sells a slightly modified version of the Redmi Note 7 in India that comes with a 12MP+2MP rear camera system - even as the China version packs a 48MP+5MP rear camera system. 

Having said that, the 48MP camera in the China version of the Redmi Note 7 uses a Samsung GM1 sensor while the Redmi Note 7 Pro packs a superior Sony IMX586 sensor - should the Redmi Note 7S be a re-branded China-exclusive Redmi Note 7, then it will (still) be a step below the Redmi Note 7 Pro and possibly a step above the Redmi Note 7 that is sold in India - because there’s a thin line in pricing between the two phones, it would be interesting to see how Xiaomi prices the Redmi Note 7S in India.
