Fresh from launch of Redmi K20 Pro and Redmi K20, Xiaomi has (already) started teasing its next Redmi phone. After bringing a 48MP camera to masses, Xiaomi is w looking to take things up a tch, with a phone with a whopping 64MP main camera. Xiaomi India head Manu Kumar Jain has shared a picture taken with mystery phone on Twitter, simultaneously confirming that it is coming soon to India.

Twitter post doesn’t mention name of 64MP sensor, but re’s a high possibility that Xiaomi is using Samsung’s 64MP GW1 sensor. Samsung’s 64MP GW1 sensor works on same principle as its 48MP GM1 and 32MP GD1 sensors – effectively producing sharper, more detailed 16MP photos in low light, and using software interpolation to produce high resolution 64MP photos as and when required.

Samsung had previously confirmed that smartphones equipped with its 64MP GW1 sensor will start shipping sometime in second half of this year – which means an August launch of 64MP Redmi phone can’t be ruled out.

Arch rival Realme is also working on a 64MP camera phone. Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth has (already) dropped more details about ir phone - phone will come with four rear cameras, main camera will use a 64MP GW1 sensor, and India will be first market to get it. Xiaomi is only just beginning with its teaser spree, and hopefully we will kw more about its 64MP-toting Redmi phone in days to come.

Considering how both Realme and Xiaomi are kwn for ir aggressive pricing, it won’t be surprising if both brands make 64MP smartphone camera a mainstream affair as well with ir respective launches.

In or news, Xiaomi has started selling Redmi K20 Pro and Redmi K20 phones in India. Although both se phones have been receiving rave reviews, social media is also abuzz with harsh criticism – how Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro are most expensive Redmi phones to date.

Manu Jain has penned an open letter in response explaining that because phones like Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro pack latest and greatest of tech (including next-generation processors) and also because Xiaomi had to revamp its entire make in India machinery to make up to 65 per cent of parts of se phones locally, price bump was inevitable.
