C Manmohan, who is general manager at Poco India, has taken to Twitter to seemingly tease a new Poco launch in the days to come. Before you jump into any conclusions, let us clear one thing. Xiaomi is not gearing to launch the Poco F2 or whatever the company decides to call the Poco F1 successor anytime soon. This has been confirmed to Republic World by Manmohan himself during an informal interaction recently.

The Poco F1 is just three months old and Xiaomi is in no hurry to launch a successor anytime soon according to the Poco India general manager.

Now that we have that out of our way, it’s time to try and decipher what the company could have in store for India in the days to come. Because clearly, Xiaomi is up to something, with regards to Poco. Poco, to refresh, is a Xiaomi sub-brand designed to focus entirely on value flagships.

Xiaomi could launch a new variant of the Poco F1. Prolific tipster Ishan Agarwal had recently tweeted that Xiaomi will launch the 6GB RAM/64GB storage and 6GB RAM/128GB storage variants of the Poco F1 in Kevlar Black soon. Note that the Kevlar Black finish is currently exclusive to the top-tier 8GB RAM and 256GB storage variant of the Poco F1. The lower-tier variants currently have an all-plastic back, but you do get a choice of colours including black and red.

If the leak comes out to be true, and Xiaomi is indeed looking to bring Kevlar finish to the 6GB RAM/64GB storage and 6GB RAM/128GB storage variants of the Poco F1, it would not only make it the most affordable phone to boast of such a finish, it would also silence critics – to some extent – who have been critical about its build quality. The 8GB RAM and 256GB storage Poco F1 variant is already the most affordable phone that you can get with Kevlar finish, and bringing it down to more mainstream prices should help Xiaomi/Poco generate some fresh hype, even more so since it is not looking to launch a new phone for some more time.

The Poco F1 brings the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor to the masses, and it is also the cheapest phones in the market to ship with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. Launched only three months ago with Android 8.1 Oreo (with custom Poco launcher) the Poco F1 is already receiving the Android Pie update making it one of the best value flagship phones that you can get at its price.

The Poco F1 starts at Rs 19,999 for the base 6GB RAM and 64GB storage variant while the top-end variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage and Kevlar finish sells for Rs 28,999. The Poco F1 is also available in 6GB RAM and 128GB storage configuration for Rs 22,999 and standard all-plastic 8GB RAM and 256GB storage configuration for Rs 27,999.
