Xiaomi launched the Mi CC9 in July and on November 5 it will launch a new ‘pro’ variant of the phone with some big camera updates. The biggest takeaway is that the Mi CC9 Pro should be Xiaomi’s first mainstream commercially available phone with a 108MP camera – not counting the limited concept Mi Mix Alpha here. That’s not all, the Mi CC9 Pro will come with as many as five rear cameras according to a teaser poster shared by Xiaomi on social media.

While key specifics of the four other cameras is unknown, one of the cameras will use a telephoto lens capable of 5x optical zoom. The Mi CC9 Pro will also come with two flash modules on the rear. As for that primary 108MP camera, the Mi CC9 Pro will pack Samsung’s 108MP ISOCELL Bright HMX image sensor – that shoots 27MP photos by default and uses software interpolation to produce high-resolution 108MP photos as and when required.
Xiaomi’s youth-centric Mi CC series made its debut in China in July with the Mi CC9. The Mi CC series from Xiaomi focuses a great deal on looks and cameras – the lineup is the result of a collaboration with Meitu, a company that Xiaomi acquired not long ago. The Mi CC 9 came with a gradient design, a 48MP main camera on the back (with Sony’s IMX 586 sensor) and a 32MP front-facing camera. And with the upcoming Mi CC9 Pro, looks like Xiaomi is looking to take things to an all new level – especially with regards to the cameras.
The Mi CC9 Pro will be Xiaomi’s second phone to launch with an 108MP camera – the first one being the Mi Mix Alpha. The Mi Mix Alpha is a limited-edition concept phone that will be sold in very limited quantities in China sometime in December. The phone has a wrap-around display – that starts at one end, wraps around one side, and meets a vertically aligned strip at the back that holds the cameras. The Mi Mix Alpha has minimal bezels on the top and bottom and ditches the physical side controls altogether. All of this entails in a screen-to-body ratio of a whopping 180 per cent.
