Xiaomi is India’s top smartphone brand. Having started its innings as an online-only brand, Xiaomi is slowly and steadily ramping up its offline sales prospects as well. On Wednesday, Xiaomi announced the opening of its 1,000th Mi Home store in India – Xiaomi’s 1,000th Mi Home store is located in Rewari, Haryana. Xiaomi now boasts of a total of 1,000 in-house retail stores across 300+ cities and 19 states – that employ over 2000 people. Xiaomi further said it plans to open over 10,000 retail stores across its four offline channels by the end of this year.

Xiaomi also announced the launch of its Mi Studios in India on Wednesday. Xiaomi’s Mi Studios are said to be an “extension of the popular Mi Homes, aiming to offer premium brand experience to consumers in 50 cities spanning across prime consumer markets in India in an optimized space.” Xiaomi is kicking things off with Bangalore and Mumbai, and plans to open as many as 200 Mi Studios by the end of 2019.

“We are delighted to be opening our 1000th Mi Store in India, and to be introducing the all-new Mi Studio initiative. While we are excited to celebrate yet another achievement, we are also truly humbled by the increasing rate of love and admiration Xiaomi has been receiving from our Mi Fans which definitely ties in with the consistent growth our brand outreach has achieved across the offline sector in India. Furthering our offline presence, we are positive that our new Mi Studio concept will also significantly enhance our brand retail experience providing Mi Fans with the best of innovative Xiaomi products at incredibly honest pricing,” Arvind Yadav, who heads retail business at Xiaomi India said in a statement.

Xiaomi seems to have big plans for offline expansion in India – the company forecasts 50 per cent of smartphone sales to happen from the offline market by the end of this year.

Xiaomi has been aggressively building its offline sales business since 2017. The company previously employed a three pronged strategy for offline sales involving Large Format Retailer partners, Mi Preferred Partner stores and Mi Home stores – and now it has added Mi Studios to that list which should bolster its offline expansion efforts further.
