With the Redmi 7A, Xiaomi had brought its A-game to the entry-level segment. It wasn’t perfect though – especially in terms of design. While phones like the Redmi 7 and Redmi Y3, launched around the same time, came with a modern dewdrop design – Xiaomi calls its dot notch design – the Redmi 7A seemed frozen in the past with its thick bezels. That’s about to change with the Redmi 8A.

Xiaomi India head Manu Kumar Jain has taken to social media to confirm that the Redmi 8A is coming to India on September 25. Chances are we’re looking at a global launch here, meaning India could be the first market to get the Redmi 8A – unless Xiaomi launches it in China (or anywhere else) in the next few days.

Xiaomi Redmi 8A confirmed with dot notch

The Xiaomi India head has also shared an outline of the Redmi 8A confirming that the budget phone will come with a dot notch – in line with the Redmi 7 and Redmi Y3. Although the back of the phone hasn’t been revealed, the edges seem to suggest that the Redmi 7A will come in red (among other colors). Whether or not Xiaomi will be going for an aura look like the Redmi 7 and Redmi Y3 or just plain old regular plastic like the Redmi 7A is something only time will tell. More details are awaited.

A TENAA listing had also recently revealed that the Redmi 8A will come with a dot notch. The listing also revealed that the phone will come with a single camera on the back and no fingerprint scanner – like the Redmi 7A. It’s said to get a bigger 6.2-inch display as well if the TENAA listing is anything to go by.

Xiaomi’s Redmi A-series has been immensely popular in India. The series caters to fist-time smartphone users who’re looking to make a switch from a feature phone without burning a hole in their pocket. Something very similar will be expected from the Redmi 8A as well.
