Google celebrates noted economist, professor, author Sir W Arthur Lewis with a doodle
In a bid to celebrate St. Lucian economist, professor, and author Sir W. Arthur Lewis, Google on Thursday, December 10, created a doodle.

In a bid to celebrate St. Lucian ecomist, professor, and author Sir W. Arthur Lewis, Google on Thursday, December 10, created a doodle and put it up on its homep. Considered as one of pioneers of modern development ecomics, 41 years ago today, in year 1979, Lewis was awarded bel Memorial Prize in Ecomics for his efforts to model ecomic forces that impact developing countries. He was also first Black faculty member at London School of Ecomics, first Black person to hold a chair in a British university, and first Black instructor to receive full professorship at Princeton University.

Google pays a tribute
With both parents working as school teachers, Sir Lewis was born on January 23, 1915, in Caribbean island of St Lucia. In year 1932, he won a scholarship and went to study at London School of Ecomics. Despite facing racial discrimination, he decided to become a full time professor. Also, he contributed to United Nations and helped establish and served as first president of Caribbean Development Bank.

Hee shifted his focus to world ecomic history and ecomic development and in year 1954, he published his foundational article “Ecomic Development with Unlimited Supplies of Labour”. He also shared his expertise as an viser to governments in Africa, Asia, and Caribbean. To hour his lifetime achievements, British government knighted Lewis in 1963.
