Google today confirmed that it has fixed the Google app bug on Android devices that caused a worldwide outage. According to the details shared by the company on its Google Search Status Dashboard, it has rolled out the update to all Android smartphones across the globe.

Google App down for Android users

It is worth noting that Android users across the globe reported facing issues with the Google app. The issue with the Google app that began at around 23:07 PDT led to the app to crash repeatedly when users attempted to use the search functionality. According to reports, Google app crashed when users attempted to open it from the home screen icon. Furthermore, reports said that the Google Search bar widget also crashed moments after showing the past queries. In addition to that, Android users also reported the Google Discover failing to launch and the Pixel Launcher search bar on Google's Pixel series of smartphones.

"There's an ongoing issue with serving in Google Search that's affecting a large number of users searching on the Google app on Android. We're working on identifying the root cause," Google had written on its dashboard at the time.

"The issue with serving has been mitigated and our systems are becoming stable, but we're still working on a fix. Affected users still experiencing issues on the Google App on Android may try to clear the app cache and the app data through the Settings app. Next update will be within 12 hours," the company added before confirming that the issue had been mitigated.

It is worth noting that while Google has mitigated the issue, it hasn't underlined the cause that led to this outage in the first place.

What should Android users do now?

Google has rolled out the update to all Android users, which means that all users should be able to use the Google app without any issues. Android users, who are still facing the issue, can clear the app cache and the app data in the Settings app before using the Google app on their devices.
