Twitterati now have an important announcement from the micro-blogging site as the number of accounts you could follow in a day is now only 400. Now, this comes at a time when the Indian general elections 209 are just around the corner and as usual content spamming, fake news have yet again turned out to be a menace for both netizens as well as technical folks at Twitter.

Till now, you could follow 1000 people/groups on Twitter

As far as the latest limiting of accounts by Twitter is concerned, the current number of accounts which you could follow is 400; earlier it was 1000. Whoever on earth follows 1000 (even 400 accounts) in a single day? If you are ardent Twitter loyalists you could share some insights here. Political parties and followers of these parties are seemingly the only people now to follow hundreds of accounts in a day, especially with elections nearing.

400 accounts to follow in a day is done by Twitter as a measure to prevent spamming.

“Follow, unfollow, follow, unfollow. Who does that? Spammers. So we’re changing the number of accounts you can follow each day from 1,000 to 400. Don’t worry, you’ll be just fine,” states Twitter in an official tweet.

You should be “just fine” with the new Twitter limit of limiting following of accounts to 400. Even in case, you have deployed bots then the latest number should just be about OK.

The fake news problem

All social networking sites, having a presence in India, have been working with political parties with respect to tackling the problem of non-genuine content. WhatsApp also recently announced that it was tackling the issue on a war footing; but there is still ground to cover as political parties have seemingly been dishing out content that is far from being consumed on a daily basis. Dishing of positive news in any day desirable, than propaganda (especially the fake ones). Don’t you think so?
