iPhone 14 Pro Max allegedly explodes while charging, burns woman severely

A woman in China met with an unfortunate event when her iPhone 14 Pro Max unexpectedly exploded while charging, according to a report. explosion caused her severe burns, scorched bed, and even left black marks on wall -- raising safety concerns. According to an early probe into incident, iPhone 14 Pro Max's battery malfunctioned while it was put on charging, causing explosion due to its proximity to things like bed that easily catches fire.

According to Hui Bang Mang radio programme by Shanxi Radio and Television, iPhone 14 Pro Max suddenly exploded at around 6.30 AM when woman was sleeping beside it. In her sleep, woman turned over, brushing her hand against flames. That caused her to wake up in shock and see burns on her hand. Already in agony, woman gradually saw fire spreading from her bedside to almost top portion of bed, before eventually blackening wall with smoke. report said that iPhone 14 Pro Max had entirely combusted with scope of recovery.

Woman's demand

woman told local radio that she bought iPhone 14 Pro Max in 2022, so it was already out of warranty when incident happened. However, she expressed insistence on finding out more about incident and its causes, along with compensation demands for injuries she sustained and dam done to her apartment.

Apple ackwledges

After incident was reported, Apple took cognisance of incident and issued a response, underscoring company's commitment to investigating potential risks related to its products. It said it had sympathy with woman and assured her that charred iPhone 14 Pro Max unit would undergo a detailed investigation to understand reasons behind malfunctioning of battery.

Although Apple will check for causes behind explosion, re could be several possibilities as to why iPhone 14 Pro Max burst into flames. For instance, woman could be using an ufficial power adapter. It is also unclear if iPhone's battery was an original from Apple and t a third-party replacement.
