Microsoft releases Windows 11 update: Top features, availability

Windows 24H2 update: Microsoft has started releasing its Windows 11 2024 update, also known as version 24H2, to the supported devices. The update, which the company is calling "a full operating system (OS) swap", not only brings foundational features, such as enhancements to the battery saver feature and Bluetooth LE Audio, but it also brings a host of AI-powered features to the Windows 11-powered devices.

"Today, we’re excited to take the next step on our journey with the announcement of new AI-powered features for Copilot+ PCs and Windows 11. These innovations are designed to simplify your workflow and personalize your experience," Microsoft's CVP of Windows and Devices, Pavan Davukuri, wrote in a post on X announcing the development.

Windows 11 24H2 update: Availability

As far as availability is concerned, Microsoft says that it is taking a phased approach towards rolling out the Windows 11 24H2 update. The company will first roll out the Windows 11 24H2 update to devices running Windows 11 version 22H2 and 23H22.

The company said that it will make the update available to more devices based on 'hardware eligibility, reliability metrics and other factors that impact the update experience'.

Windows 11 24H2 update: Top 5 features

The latest update brings a host of new features to Windows 11-powered PCs. Here are the top features users need to look out for:

-- Wi-Fi 7 connectivity: Windows 11 24H2 update brings Wi-Fi 7 support to Windows PCs. Wi-Fi 7 reduces latency, and it offers up to 4x speed over Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E.

-- Bluetooth LE Audio enhancements: The update also brings Bluetooth LE Audio enhancements for assistive hearing devices. Microsoft says that with this update, users can adjust their assistive hearing device settings to suit their environment. Users can also manage the volume of ambient sound their assistive hearing device capture.

-- QR Code sharing for Wi-Fi networks: Another important feature that the 24H2 update brings is the ability to share Wi-Fi network using QR codes. With this feature, users can scan a QR code to instantly connect to a Wi-Fi network, share their Wi-Fi password with another device using a QR code and share their mobile hotspots using QR codes.

-- Improved Microsoft Teams support: The 24H2 update also enables smoother transition between personal and work accounts in Microsoft Teams. Microsoft says that this update simplifies workflow by allowing users to use one application for all Teams accounts.

-- Voice Clarity support: Microsoft is also expanding support for its Voice Clarity feature, that was previously restricted to its Surface devices, to all Windows 11-powered features. For the unversed, Voice Clarity uses AI models to cancel echo, suppress background noise, and minimise reverberation in real-time.
