OnePlus announces October 24 event to launch Android 15-based OxygenOS 15

OnePlus has announced it will host an event on October 24 to introduce its next-generation mobile operating system, OxygenOS 15. Based on the new Android 15 AOSP (Android Open Source Project), OxygenOS 15 will bring more privacy-focused features, satellite communication, new emojis, Circle to Search, and the company’s generative artificial intelligence features. The beta builds for OxygenOS 15 are already available for OnePlus Open and OnePlus 12, giving a peek at what to expect from the next OnePlus mobile platform.

Scheduled to take place at 3.30 pm IST next Thursday, the OnePlus event will see the debut of OxygenOS 15 and a slew of announcements on the company’s AI tools that it has been working on for a while. While OxygenOS 15 features will be more or less the same as stock Android 15, which began rolling out earlier this week to eligible Pixel devices, OnePlus’s AI features will define the company’s vision for its smartphone business in a future that experts believe will see the emergence of more advanced AI technologies tailored for smartphone experiences.

According to OnePlus, OxygenOS 15 will pack AI features that could “maximise productivity and creativity.” It added that the upcoming mobile operating system will bring “unprecedently smooth” animation effects and a new design that will “empower multi-tasking scenarios and personality expression.”

While OnePlus has not confirmed which devices will be eligible for OxygenOS 15, the company’s software update policy hints at a long list of devices. While flagship phones such as the OnePlus 11 and OnePlus 12 will be eligible for four platform updates, older ones will get three. Its Nord range of phones is eligible for two platform updates, except for the budget Nord N which will get just one update. However, their eligibility to get OxygenOS 15 does not guarantee a uniform rollout schedule. In other words, the OnePlus 12 and OnePlus Open could get the update first, followed by a set of other phones from the list, and so on.
