Political posts draw more angry reactions on Facebook: Study

When Facebook did some major algorithmic to its news feed last year with aim of “bringing people closer toger,” little did we kw that its efforts will show more angry reactions among Facebook users! According to a new study published by NewsWhip, a social media engment tracking company, users are angrier since last major newsfeed overhaul and at same time, topics such as religion, abortion and politics draw more engment.

“It’s been just over a year since Facebook anunced ir algorithm change, shaking up world of social publishing,” researchers te.

Following are content on Facebook that drew most engment this year so far. data gared by NewsWhip focused on following period: January 1st to March 10th, 2019. As you can see, most of helines were related to topics such as death, suicide, guns, murder, politics, abortion, crime and religion. Similarly, most shared and commented helines were different eir:

study also compares Facebook’s overall engment rate in 2019 within same period from last two years. In a nutshell, Facebook has significantly improved its engment game at beginning of this year, topping numbers since 2017. Apparently, 2018 was t a great year for Facebook in terms of posts engment.

According to this study, political posts generated most number of angry reactions on Facebook. In fact, politics (36 per cent) dominate top 100 stories in 2019, followed by Soft/General Interest (17 per cent), Death (11 per cent), Science (10 per cent), Hard/General (8 per cent) and Ecomics (6 per cent).

“Outside of political content, re were t many angry reactions on Facebook’s native content, and Angry reactions me up fewer than one percent of reactions to top 10,000 posts,” researchers ded.

However, as far as angry reactions are concerned on Facebook, re are two major scenarios: Eir people are angry with content or event or a topic described in content. Eir way, people are angrier. However, study showed that or category drew as many angry reactions as politics. It also detes that posts shared by mainstream publishers have most engment and angry reactions than ors.
