This hidden 'yellow mode' on iPhone offers extra battery life

iPhone battery has often divided both Apple fans and critics over its longevity, with most users claiming y would want a better battery life over some features in iPhone. While Apple has improved iPhone battery over past few years, it falls short of expectations, especially with similarly-priced Android counterparts in picture. However, iPhone has a hidden "yellow mode" that can almost instantly boost battery life, saving frustration.

It is officially known as Low Power Mode, available within battery settings on iPhone. often-missed feature turns battery bar on top of iPhone yellow, but that is just an indication that device has entered special mode that makes it harder for battery to run out quickly. Low Power Mode restricts background activities, such as frequent mail updates and high display refresh rates on Pro models, to reduce power consumption. performance of iPhone is also slightly impacted but causes battery to deplete less, resulting in massive battery gains.

"Low Power Mode temporarily reduces background activity like downlos and mail fetch until you can fully charge your iPhone," res Apple's description for mode.

Here's a list of features that Low Power Mode will reduce or affect:

  • 5G (except for video streaming) on iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models
  • Auto-Lock (defaults to 30 seconds)
  • Display brightness
  • Display refresh rate (limited up to 60 Hz) on iPhone and iP models with ProMotion display
  • Some visual effects
  • iCloud Photos (temporarily paused)
  • Automatic downlos
  • Email fetch
  • Background app refresh

How to activate "yellow mode" on iPhone

Method 1: Using Settings app

  • Open Settings app on iPhone.
  • Scroll down and tap on Battery.
  • Toggle switch next to Low Power Mode to turn it on (it will turn green when enabled).

Method 2: Through Control Center (on iPhones with Face ID)

  • Swipe down from top-right corner of screen to open Control Centre.
  • Press and hold Battery icon.
  • Tap on Low Power Mode button that appears.

Turning Low Power Mode instantly changes battery icon colour from green to yellow, thus, activating “yellow mode.”
