Vivo launches Android 15-based Funtouch OS 15: Top features, availability

Vivo today announced the launch of the Funtouch OS 15 mobile operating system. This newly launched mobile operating system will power the company's X-series, Y-series, T-series and V-series smartphones and it is based on Google's upcoming Android 15 mobile OS.

Vivo says that its newly launched Funtouch OS 15 mobile OS replaces Android's existing Fair Scheduling algorithm with its proprietary Priority Scheduling model. This model prioritises computing power for the apps and processes running in the foreground, which in turn results in a 15 percent increase in the app opening speed, the company says.

In addition to this, the Funtouch OS 15 brings the company's Lightning-Speed Engine to the supported devices, which according to the company improves the app startup response speed by around 20 percent.

Vivo Funtouch OS 15 update: Top features

Vivo's newly launched Funtouch OS 15 update brings a host of new features to the supported devices. Here are the top features coming to Vivo smartphones:

-- Better animations: Vivo says that the Funtouch OS 15 brings smoother animations to the supported devices. It includes Origin Animation and Aqua Dynamic Effect, that improve animation effects and responsiveness.

-- Call background: This feature lets users select a custom background for calls from their contacts. Users can either choose from the available list of five call backgrounds or pick a photo from their collection to be used as a call background.

-- Customisable icons and widgets: With Funtouch OS 15, Vivo device owners can change the style and design of app icons. Users can also hide app names, just like iOS 18. Additionally, users can also customise the clock widget.

-- Priority Scheduling: Vivo has updated the scheduling algorithm in the Funtouch OS 15. This updated algorithm allocates computing power to foreground processes, which improves the app startup time.

-- Memory Enhancement Technology: This feature releases redundant memory by compressing memory based on actual usage by various apps. It also improves multitasking by accelerating memory allocation.

-- AI-enabled features: Funtouch OS 15 brings a host of AI-enabled features, including Photo Enhance, which automatically enhances the colour and clarity of images without manual adjustments, and Super Documents, which removes shadows from the scanned documents.

-- Link to Windows feature enables users to connect their Vivo smartphones to their Windows PCs and access its content using the screen mirroring feature. This feature was earlier limited to Samsung smartphones.

-- Ultra Game Mode: Funtouch OS 15 also enables users to play games in landscape mode.

Vivo Funtouch OS 15 update: Availability

As far as availability is concerned, Vivo has confirmed that it will start rolling out Funtouch OS 15 update to the Vivo X Fold3 Pro, the Vivo X100 Series and the iQOO 12 starting mid-October.

Funtouch OS 15 update will start arriving on the Vivo X90 Pro and the Vivo X90 in mid of November.
