Vivo leads India's smartphone market in Q3 2024 as total shipments cross 4.6 crore units

Smartphone supplies in India grew by 6 per cent to 4.6 crore in July-September quarter with Vivo leing chart and iQoo clocking highest growth rate among top 10 brands, a report by market research firm IDC said on Wednesday. market was dominated by Chinese players, with leing brands cornering around 72 per cent market share during quarter.

" Indian smartphone market grew for fifth consecutive quarter. In third quarter of 2024, smartphone shipments in India reached 46 million units, reflecting 5.6 per cent growth YoY (year-over-year)," report said.

Apple and Samsung clocked 8.6 per cent and 12.3 per cent market share in September 2024 quarter, according to International Data Corporation's (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker for third quarter of 2024. "Apple h its biggest quarter of shipments, with 4 million units, led by iPhone 15 and iPhone 13. This furr widened gap between value share of Apple and Samsung, which stood at 28.7 per cent and 15.2 per cent, respectively," report said.

premium segment phone priced in range of Rs 50,000 to Rs 68,000 apiece registered highest growth of 86 per cent and ir total supply share increased to 4 per cent from 2 per cent a year ago. "Key models were iPhone 15/13/14, Galaxy S23, and OnePlus 12. Apple's share increased YoY to 71 per cent, while Samsung's share dropped to 19 per cent, from 30 per cent a year ago," report said.

entry-premium segment, priced in range of Rs 16,000 to Rs 35,000, registered a strong growth of 42 per cent YoY, and accounted for 28 per cent in total supplies during quarter. "Oppo was biggest gainer, while share of Samsung and vivo declined, all three toger making up 53 per cent of this segment," report said.

share of 5G smartphone shipments increased to 83 per cent from 57 per cent a year ago while 5G smartphone average selling price (ASP) declined by 20 per cent YoY to about Rs 24,600 (USD 292).

"Within 5G, shipments of mass budget (USD 100 to USD 200 or Rs 8000-Rs 16,000 apiece) segment almost doubled, reaching 50 per cent share. Xiaomi Redmi 13C, Apple iPhone 15, OPPO K12x, vivo T3x and Y28, were highest-shipped 5G models in third quarter of 2024," report said.

Vivo supply volumes increased by 20 per cent on YoY basis and its market share increased to 15.8 per cent  during reported quarter from 13.9 per cent a year ago. "Vivo continued to le for third consecutive quarter, with affordable Y series and newly launched T3 and V40 series," report said.

Oppo h a 13.9 per cent share, Realme 11.5 per cent, Xiaomi 11.4 per cent, Poco 5.8 per cent, Motorola 5.7 per cent, iQoo 4.2 per cent and OnePlus 3.6 per cent market share in total smartphone supplies during reported quarter.
