WhatsApp pro tip: How to move chats from Android phone to iPhone

WhatsApp has the largest user base in India, thanks to its ability to run on a range of devices, including those running Android and iOS. The Meta-owned chat app offers a majority of its chat-oriented features on these two platforms, but interoperability is not one of them. In other words, migrating chats between WhatsApp’s Android and iOS apps is complicated and requires users to perform a set of steps. Here is a guide on transferring your chats from an Android phone to an iPhone.

Before starting with the process, WhatsApp users must ensure they meet a few requirements:

• An Android phone with Android 15 or higher
• An iPhone with iOS 15.5 or higher
• The iPhone must be either new or factory reset
• Move to iOS app on the Android phone
• The latest version of WhatsApp on both Android and iOS devices
• The same phone number for chat transfers
• Stable Wi-Fi connection

Here is how to migrate WhatsApp chats

1. While setting up the iPhone, go to the “Apps & Data” section.
2. Choose the “Move Data from Android” option on the iPhone and follow the on-screen instructions.
3. Open the Move to iOS app on Android and follow the on-screen prompts.
4. A code will appear on the iPhone to pair both devices. Enter this code into the suggested area in the Move to iOS app on the Android phone.
5. Choose WhatsApp on the “Transfer Data” screen and tap “Start” on the Android phone to start the process of data transfer.
6. After WhatsApp has prepared the chat data for transfer, it will log the user out from the Android phone.
7. Tap “Next” to return to the “Move to iOS” app on the Android phone.
8. Hit the “Continue” button to begin the transfer, which may take several minutes depending on the size of data and connection speed.
9. Once the transfer is complete, download and install WhatsApp on the iPhone using the App Store.
10. Open WhatsApp on the iPhone and log in using the same phone number used on the Android phone.
11. Tap “Start” when prompted to import the chat history from the transfer.
