Muralikrishnan B has announced his departure from the role of Xiaomi India's President. In an official communication, Muralikrishnan said he would now "pursue his passion for academic research." Xiaomi India is now left with other top executives, including COO Sudhin Mathur and CMO Anuj Sharma. His resignation comes over a year after Xiaomi India's trailblazing vice president for global operations, Manu Kumar Jain, ended his nine-year-long stint with the Chinese company.
While Muralikrishnan will now take up his research interests in consumer behaviour on technology platforms as part of the Executive Doctorate programme at the Indian School of Business (ISB), he will continue "to support the company" as an independent strategic advisor.
"My journey with Xiaomi has been incredibly fulfilling learning experience, and I look forward to creating more value and impact by dedicating my time to academics and research," Muralikrishnan said in a note, highlighting his contribution to the company that continued to hold its position in the list of India's top smartphone brands.
Muralikrishnan B joined Xiaomi over six years ago, but he became the brand's face after Jain's exit in January 2023. He has held various roles at the company, including Chief Operating Officer, before assuming the position of Xiaomi India's President in 2022. In his role, he spearheaded the Chinese company's India business, proving pivotal in Xiaomi's efforts to navigate the challenges amid calls for localisation in the country. He also led the company's bullish strategy to grow shipments across prices. Under his stewardship, Xiaomi also forayed into different categories.
“Under Murali’s leadership, Xiaomi has seen exceptional success in India, continuing to be a key player in the technology landscape and connecting millions to innovative products. We deeply appreciate his contribution, and our commitment to India’s growth journey remains stronger than ever” said Adam Zeng, SVP of the Group and President of the International Business Department.
